Message from Canada Revenue Agency
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is constantly looking for ways to ensure that its Web site is user-friendly and efficient, both as an information source and a tool for Canadians.
As you may be aware, one of the new services being developed is an online service that will allow authorized third parties to access tax information and services on behalf of their clients. Scheduled for implementation in 2006, the proposed electronic service will be as secure as the current paper process for authorization, with the added benefit of allowing virtually instantaneous online access to tax information by a registered and authorized third party.
After a one-time registration with the CRA, third parties will be able to access the types of information and services about their clients currently found on the CRA's My Account service:
- tax refund or balance owing;
- RRSP, Home Buyers' Plan, and Lifelong Learning Plan;
- account balance and payments that were made on filing;
- instalments;
- Canada Child Tax Benefit and related provincial and territorial program payments, account balances, and statements of account; and
- GST/HST credit and related provincial program payments, account balances, and statements of account.
The CRA is seeking your input on the information tax professionals would like to be able to access on behalf of their clients. We are asking you to go to www.cra.gc.ca/representatives and to complete a short questionnaire telling us what information or services would make your job easier. We encourage you to pass this message onto other tax professionals so that they, too, can provide their comments. Please note that the final day for providing responses is Friday, March 4.
