The system will allow you to record your CPD activities throughout the year as you complete them and provide you with an up-to-date summary of your progress towards completing the minimum annual and triennial requirements. You can go on-line to report hours, make a declaration that you have reported to another Institute or foreign accounting body or you can report that you qualify for an exemption. You can also view previously reported hours to assist with tracking your ongoing CPD. And once you have entered all of your learning activities for a year, you can submit an electronic declaration that you have met the requirements.
Simply go to our website at www.icam.mb.ca, where you can access the on-line reporting system in one of two ways.
-
You can click on the link included in the announcement of the new system in the News section of the home page; or
-
You can click on the following link http://www.icam.mb.ca/profdevelopment_reportcpd.html and select “Report CPD Hours On-line”. You will be required to log in with your member number to access your record. If you have not previously used the Member Login area or have forgotten your password, please refer to the instructions at the bottom of this memo.
Once you are logged in, follow the instructions - choose the year you want to enter (2007 for now). Tell the system whether you are reporting full CPD, claiming an exemption, or that you have reported to another Institute or foreign accounting body. Fill in the information on your learning activities and enter your hours.
You do not need to enter all of your hours at one time. You can go back at any time, enter additional hours or view previously reported hours.
Once you have entered all of your hours, check the summary for accuracy. When you’ve entered all of your learning activities for 2007, submit your declaration.
Some things to remember –
-
You must submit your CPD report and declaration by March 31 every year.
-
If you’re reporting hours for a conference or other activity that spans more than a day, you can just enter the first day in the “date” field.
-
If you are reporting verifiable hours that cover more than one competency, please select the competency that is most applicable to you.
-
If you’re reporting unverifiable hours, there is no need to provide all of the details related to the activities – a general description such as “general reading”, ”read CA Magazine”, “on-the-job research” or something similar is fine.
-
If you make a mistake, you can delete the entry using the “delete hours previously reported” function. Just make sure that you don’t delete hours that will reduce your reported hours below the minimum requirements for a particular year after you have already submitted a declaration for that year.
-
If you have already submitted your 2007 CPD reporting form to the Institute, your hours will be entered for you later this month. You will, at any time after that, be able to view these on-line.
-
On screen prompts are provided to assist you with questions you may have about verifiable vs unverifiable learning activities, exemptions, and competencies.
We think the new system will simplify reporting for everyone – it will help you monitor and plan your own CPD, you can access the information any time to see what you’ve reported and where you stand as compared to the minimum requirements and you can submit your annual CPD report at the click of a mouse.
Members who report online will have their name entered in a draw for free PD in 2008.
Next Step – For 2008 reporting, we hope to have automatic CPD reporting in place. When you attend an Institute course, your CPD hours will be automatically updated. Once we have this in place this spring, we will make the 2008 reporting available on-line.
And while you are in the Member Login area you may notice that you can also update certain information in your profile, sign up for Institute events or register for PD courses as well. If you would like to access this information, you will need to re-login, using the same login and password. If you’re not sure if you’re logged in or not, if your name appears on the left hand side, you are logged in.
If you have any questions or problems with the on-line CPD reporting system, contact Shirley Sommer (ssommer@icam.mb.ca) or Dianne Laidler (dlaidler@icam.mb.ca).
