Healthy Start for Mom & Me

Board Treasurer opening – October 2008

Healthy Start for Mom & Me is a charitable organization in Winnipeg, reaching out to women and families that are pregnant and/or have a baby up to one year of age. Operating since 1997, the agency collaborates with public health and other partners to offer educational drop-in sessions from 9 locations, and largely in the inner city. Home visiting is also offered as needed. Funded by both the federal and provincial governments via the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program and Healthy Child Manitoba, the organization is stable, has a staff of 14 plus many volunteers, childminders and interpreters, and attracts over 1300 women a year.

A committed Board of 8 women is in place and our long-serving Treasurer is finishing up her service with us. Meetings are monthly except in summer. We seek a special complement to our Board team who will bring financial background, experience and vision along with interest in our purpose and activities. Directors’ insurance is in place, a CGA does the bookkeeping, annual audit or financial review is done by an outside firm, and appropriate financial procedures are in place. The Treasurer has signing authority and all cheques are signed by two people.

This is an opportunity for someone who seeks a new experience, is available for daytime downtown Board meetings (currently held at lunch for up to 2 hours, the 4th Wednesday of the month) and has interests in the areas of poverty, health, parenting and women’s capacities. The nomination would occur at the AGM October 31st.

Those interested in pursuing this possibility are asked to contact:

Gail Wylie , Executive Director, 949-5350, gwylie_healthystart@mts.net
