Protecting the Public

As the governing body of a self-regulatory profession, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba is responsible for protecting the public interest. The profession has established professional practice standards, rules of professional conduct, and bylaws and regulations to govern its members.

The Institute ensures all members and students observe high professional and ethical standards through self-regulatory activities including:

  • high standards of qualification, involving both a demanding education program with a rigorous final evaluation and a significant period of prescribed practical experience with an approved office designated to train students
  • a comprehensive mandatory professional development program
  • a professional practice advisory service
  • a mandatory practice review program directed to ensure that members engaged in the practice of public accounting maintain prescribed professional standards
  • a comprehensive disciplinary process that deals with complaints and other matters concerning members’ and students’ professional conduct
The common thread running though these activities is the establishment and maintenance of appropriate standards of competence and conduct for Institute members and students.

For more information, please refer to the Discipline Process.
